Parent Information Letter
Dear Parents,

In the past, all ninth graders completed a Time Capsule project that was turned in during the ninth grade year, stored, and returned to the student on Class Night before graduation. However, students will no longer be completing this project as part of the ninth grade curriculum. One element on the Time Capsule that we have chosen to continue is the parent/guardian/family letter. The letter is to be written by you to your child and sealed in an envelope. It is not intended for your child to read the letter until graduation time. You may write whatever you wish- your hopes and dreams for your child, your thoughts and reflections on his or her childhood- it is entirely up to you. It is a unique touch and something that will, I believe, be very meaningful to you and your child. The letter should be sealed in a standard size envelope labeled with your child’s first and last name. I am asking that you send the sealed letter to school anytime between now and Nine Weeks Exams. You may also include photos as long as they fit into a standard size envelope. These letters will be stored until time for your child to graduate, and then they will be given to your child. The letter is not required, but you are sure to be glad you chose to participate.
I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with your child this year! I will post daily lessons/assignments on my website each day. You may also see the school secretary, Mrs. Beasley, to pick up your password so that you may view your child’s grades from home. You must see her in person to get this information. It cannot be given to the students. We will work together to do our best to master the objectives outlined in the Alabama Course of Study for English 9. Heavy emphasis will be placed on the specific skills your child will need to be successful on the Alabama High School Graduation Exam in reading and language. We will also spend time on vocabulary and writing. I will do my best to give individual attention to students who seem to be struggling with particular concepts. If you ever have any questions or concerns about your child’s progress, PLEASE feel free to call or e-mail me at school. Thank you in advance for your cooperation. Together, we can make this a great year for your child!

Sincerely,
